What to Do Before the Vet Arrives

In an emergency, the first few minutes matter — and they're mostly about staying organized, not performing advanced care.

Immediate Steps

  • Contact the client and the vet immediately
  • Keep the pet as calm as possible during transport
  • Bring any medical information or medication you have on hand
  • Document what happened, including the time it started

You're not expected to diagnose or treat the animal yourself — your job is to get accurate information to the vet as quickly and calmly as possible.
