Outdoor and Yard Safety Basics

If the pet has any yard or outdoor access during your visit, a quick check before letting them out prevents most outdoor incidents.

Outdoor Safety Checklist

  • Check that gates and fences are fully closed and free of gaps
  • Look for anything the pet could get into that seems unusually accessible, such as an open shed or garage
  • Check for toxic plants, standing water, or pool access if relevant
  • Note anything that looks off — a broken fence panel, a missing latch — and inform the client right away

A few extra seconds checking the yard is far cheaper than an escaped pet or an avoidable injury.
