Indoor Home Safety Basics

Keeping the inside of a client's home safe protects both the pet and their trust in you.

Indoor Safety Checklist

  • Confirm all doors and windows are locked before you leave
  • Keep cleaning supplies, medications, and small objects out of a pet's reach
  • Check that trash cans and food storage are secured, especially with dogs prone to counter-surfing
  • Watch for loose cords, open flames (candles), or anything a curious pet could knock over

If you ever arrive and something seems genuinely wrong, such as signs of a break-in, don't go inside — contact the client and local authorities first. Your safety comes before finishing the visit.
