Great materials can make a good lesson excellent. Poor materials can sink a great lesson plan. This lesson shows you what materials work, how to find them, and how to use them effectively.

  • Is it appropriate for the level? Students should be able to engage without being overwhelmed.
  • Is it relevant to the objective? Every material should connect to what students are learning.
  • Is it engaging? Will students find it interesting?
  • Is it the right length? Too long and students lose focus. Too short and there is not enough to work with.

Making your own materials

Sometimes the perfect material does not exist — so you make it. AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude can help you create: - Reading texts at any level on any topic - Gap-fill exercises with answer keys - Vocabulary matching activities - Role play scenarios

Try This: Build a materials library. Every time you create or find a great worksheet, activity, or resource, save it in a folder organized by level and topic. Over time you will build a personal collection that saves hours of preparation.
