What is a Teaching Methodology?

A teaching methodology is simply the approach a teacher uses to help students learn. It is the "how" of teaching — how you present language, how you structure activities, and how you help students practice.

Different methodologies work better in different situations. A great teacher does not stick to one method — they mix and match depending on the students, the topic, and the goal of the lesson.

The shift in modern English teaching

Old approach: The teacher talks. Students listen, memorize, and repeat.

New approach: Students use English to communicate. The teacher guides, supports, and facilitates.

This shift is important. Research consistently shows that students learn more when they are actively using the language — not just listening to explanations about it.

Think about it: Would you learn to swim by reading a book about swimming? Language learning works the same way. Students need to get in the water.
