Recognizing Aggression Warning Signs
Aggression rarely appears out of nowhere. There are almost always warning signs first, and recognizing them early keeps everyone safe.
✓Warning Signs
- Stiff posture and a hard, fixed stare
- Raised hackles
- Growling or showing teeth
- Sudden stillness right before a lunge
✓How to Respond
- Back away slowly
- Avoid direct eye contact
- Never punish or yell at the animal
- Contact the client if you can't safely complete the visit
There's no shame in ending a visit early for safety. A tense situation handled calmly is always better than pushing through it.
