Recognizing Anxiety and Fear

Anxiety and fear often show up more intensely than everyday stress, and usually call for a gentler response.

Signs of Anxiety or Fear

  • Trembling or shaking
  • Trying to hide or escape the room
  • Excessive drooling
  • Refusing normal food
  • Excess vocalizing, such as whining or crying

How to Respond

  • Stay calm and move slowly
  • Don't force interaction — let the pet approach you
  • Keep the routine as familiar as possible
  • Note the behavior and let the client know, especially if it's new
