Recognizing Stress Signals in Cats

Cats often show stress more subtly than dogs, so it's worth knowing what to look for.

Common Stress Signals in Cats

  • Flattened or swiveling ears
  • Dilated pupils
  • Tail flicking or thumping
  • Hiding more than usual
  • Over-grooming or refusing to groom at all
  • Low growling or hissing

If you notice these signs, give the cat space, avoid direct eye contact, and let it approach you when it's ready.
