Liqueurs & Modifiers

While base spirits provide the backbone of a cocktail, liqueurs and modifiers add sweetness, flavor, and complexity.

Liqueurs are sweetened spirits flavored with fruits, herbs, spices, or cream. They usually have a lower alcohol content than base spirits.

Modifiers are ingredients that adjust a cocktail's flavor and balance — such as bitters, syrups, and citrus juices. A few dashes can completely change a drink.

Liqueurs are powerful. A little goes a long way — too much will overwhelm the base spirit and unbalance the drink.
