The best grammar and vocabulary teaching in the world means nothing if students do not get enough practice. This lesson gives you a practical toolkit of activities you can use immediately — for any level, any grammar point, any vocabulary set.

Grammar Activities

✓Gap-fill (Cloze)

Students complete sentences with the correct form of the target grammar.

  • "Yesterday I ______ (go) to the store."
  • Level: All levels
  • Good for: Controlled accuracy practice

✓Sentence Transformation

Students rewrite a sentence using a different structure.

  • "She started working here in 2010." → "She has worked here ______."
  • Level: Intermediate and above
  • Good for: Connecting grammar structures

✓Error Correction

Students identify and fix mistakes in sentences.

  • "Yesterday I go to school." → ✗ What is wrong? How do you fix it?
  • Level: A2 and above

✓Grammar Auction

Write 10 sentences on the board — some correct, some incorrect. In teams, students bet on the sentences they think are correct. The team with the most correct sentences and the most points wins.

Vocabulary Activities

✓Matching

Students match words to definitions, pictures, or example sentences.

✓Vocabulary Bingo

Students fill a bingo card with target vocabulary words. The teacher reads definitions — students cross off the matching word.

✓Word Association

Say a target word. Students call out the first word they think of. Discuss the connections.

✓Role Play with Target Vocabulary

Students must use a set of target words in a role play scenario.

  • "Use these five words in your conversation: reservation, complaint, refund, manager, apologize."
