Pets with Mobility or Physical Disabilities
Some pets get around with the help of equipment or an adjusted routine, and knowing how to support that safely is an important skill.

- Ramps or steps used instead of jumping onto furniture or into vehicles
- Support harnesses that help lift the hindquarters or stabilize a weak leg
- Wheelchairs (carts) for pets with limited or no use of their hind legs
✓How to Help
- Ask the client to walk you through any equipment before the first visit — don't guess at how it's used
- Never force a movement the pet is avoiding; let mobility aids do the supporting work they're designed for
- Keep floors clear of obstacles the pet could catch equipment on
- Report any signs of discomfort with the equipment, such as rubbing or resistance, to the client
Equipment exists to keep these pets independent and comfortable — your job is to support that, not work around it.
