Module 1: First Aid Basics & Checking Vital Signs
When to Go Straight to the Vet
Some situations should never wait for first aid. Call ahead and go immediately if you see any of the following.
✓Go Straight to the Vet If You See:
- Difficulty breathing
- Uncontrolled bleeding
- Suspected poisoning
- Loss of consciousness
- Seizures lasting more than a couple of minutes
- Suspected broken bones with visible deformity
When in doubt, call your vet or the nearest emergency animal hospital and describe what you're seeing. They would always rather you call and be wrong than stay home and be right.
