Photography and Lighting Considerations for Makeup

Makeup that looks perfect in person can look very different through a camera lens.

Key Considerations

  • Flash photography can wash out subtle contouring and highlight shimmer more than expected
  • Natural light is generally more forgiving and closer to how makeup will look in person
  • HD cameras can pick up texture and powder more clearly, so building products in thin layers often photographs better than heavy application

Asking a client about their photography plans during the consultation (Module 5, Lesson 1) lets you adjust your approach before you start, not after the photos are taken.
