Leash Setup for Multiple Dogs

How you set up your leashes determines how much control you have when walking more than one dog.

Setup Options

  • Individual leashes held separately give you the most control and the ability to react to each dog independently
  • A coupler device can work well for two dogs of similar size and pace, but reduces your ability to separate them quickly if needed
  • Whatever setup you use, keep leashes from crossing or tangling by positioning dogs on either side of you or at consistent distances

If you're new to multi-dog walking, start with individual leashes until the setup feels fully natural.
